Fempro tablets (Generic Letrozole) are used for the adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor positive invasive early breast cancer. It is also used as an extended adjuvant treatment of hormone receptor positive early invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have received prior standard adjuvant tamoxifen therapy for 5 years and as first-line treatment in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor positive advanced breast cancer.

This medication is also useful for the treatment of advanced breast cancer in women after relapse or disease progression with natural or artificially induced postmenopausal status, who have previously been treated with anti-oestrogens and Neo - adjuvant therapy in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor positive breast cancer, HER-2 negative breast cancer where chemotherapy is not suitable and immediate surgery not indicated. Fempro Tablets belongs to a group of medicines called aromatase inhibitors.

Uses of Generic Letrozole Tablets (Fempro by Cipla)

Letrozole helps lower the estrogen levels in postmenopausal women. This may slow the growth of certain types of breast tumors that need estrogen to grow in your body. Fempro (Generic Femara) is often given to women who have been taking tamoxifen for more than 5 years.

We supply the Fempro by Cipla which is also known as Generic Letrozole. Each tablet contains Letrozole 2.5 mg and it is supplied in a box of 50 tablets.

Fempro Tablets (Generic Letrozole 2.5 mg) - Dosage

The recommended dose of Fempro tablets is one 2.5 mg tablet administered once a day, with or without meals. In the adjuvant setting, treatment with Fempro tablets must continue for 5 years or until tumour relapse occurs, whichever comes first.

Following standard adjuvant Tamoxifen therapy, treatment with Fempro tablets should continue for 5 years or until tumour relapse occurs, whichever comes first.In patients with metastatic disease, treatment with Fempro tablets must continue until tumour progression is evident.

In the neoadjuvant setting, treatment with Generic Letrozole tablets can be continued for 4 to 8 months in order to establish optimal tumour reduction. In case the response is not adequate, treatment with Generic Letrozole should be discontinued and surgery scheduled and/or further treatment options discussed with the patient.

Regular monitoring to observe progression during the pre-operative treatment period is recommended. No dose adjustment of Fempro tablets is required for elderly patients.

How to Use Fempro Tablets (Generic Letrozole 2.5 mg)

Take Generic Letrozole tablets ( Fempro) exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take it in larger doses or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Take each dose with a full glass (8 ounces) of water. Fempro can be taken with or without food, usually taken once a day. Follow your doctor's instructions.

You will need to be tested on a regular basis to be sure the generic Femara is helping your condition. Your bone mineral density may also need to be checked. It is important that you not miss any scheduled visits with your doctor.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra Fempro tablets to make up the missed dose.

Fempro Tablets Contraindications

Fempro tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Letrozole or any inactive ingredient present in Fempro tablets.

Generic Letrozole (Fempro tablets) is contraindicated in pregnant women and nursing mothers. Letrozole may cause foetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman.
Letrozole is contraindicated in women who may become pregnant.

Generic Letrozole Side effects

The most common Generic Letrozole side effects with an incidence rate of 20% or more were hot flashes, arthralgia, flushing, asthenia, edema, arthralgia, headache, dizziness, hypercholesterolemia and sweating.

Get emergency medical help if you have any signs of an Letrozole allergic reaction including: hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Less serious Fempro side effects may include:
• hot flashes, warmth or redness in your face or chest
• headache, muscle or joint pain
• night sweats
• weight gain
• fatigue, feeling weak
• nausea
• swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet

This is not a complete list of Fempro side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effects. An overdose of Generic Letrozole is not expected to produce life-threatening symptoms.

Fempro Tablets (Generic Letrozole 2.5 mg) Storage

Store Fempro tablets at 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted to 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F). Keep away from children and pets. Store in a dry cool place.

Letrozole Overdosage

Isolated cases of Letrozole overdose have been reported. In these instances, the highest single dose ingested was 62.5 mg or 25 tablets.

No serious adverse reactions were reported in these cases, but due to the limited data available, no firm recommendations for treatment can be made.

However, emesis can be induced if the patient is alert. In general, supportive care and frequent monitoring of vital signs are also recommended. In single-dose studies, the highest Letrozole dose used was 30 mg, which was well tolerated; in multiple-dose trials, the largest dose of 10 mg was well tolerated.

Warnings & Precautions

You should not take Fempro tablet (Generic Femera) if you are allergic to letrozole (the active ingredient), or if you have not gone completely through menopause. Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before you take Fempro or any other brand of Letrozole.

FDA pregnancy category X. Letrozole 2.5 mg tablets can cause harm to an unborn baby. Letrozole may cause injury and even death to the unborn baby if you take it during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Do not use this medicine without your doctor's consent if you are pregnant. Use an effective form of birth control. Stop using this medication and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment.

Fempro can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.

Fatigue and Dizziness

Since fatigue, dizziness, and somnolence have been reported with the use of Generic Letrozole, caution is advised when driving or using machinery until it is known how the patient reacts to Fempro use.

Letrozole During Pregnancy

Letrozole has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category X.

Generic Letrozole (Fempro tablets) may cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman and the clinical benefit to premenopausal women with breast cancer has not been demonstrated. Generic Letrozole is contraindicated in women who are or may become pregnant. If this drug is used during pregnancy, or if the patient becomes pregnant while taking this drug, the patient should be apprised of the potential hazard to a fetus.

Generic Letrozole caused adverse effects in pregnancy including congenital malformations, in rats and rabbits at doses much smaller than the daily maximum recommended human dose (MRHD) on a mg/m2 basis.

Stop using this medication and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment.

Nursing Considerations

It is not known at present whether Letrozole and its metabolites are excreted in human milk. A risk to the newborns/infants cannot be ruled out. Fempro is contraindicated during breast-feeding
Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
